The Congressional Art Competition 2024: Oklahoma's Call for Young Artists

The Congressional Art Competition, a prestigious nationwide event held each spring, offers a unique platform for high school students to showcase their artistic talents. Sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, this competition seeks to recognize and nurture the creative potential across the nation, and specifically within each congressional district. In 2024, Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District embraced the theme: “Oklahoma’s Future Begins with Me,” a call to action for young artists to envision and depict their state’s future through their art.

Understanding the Competition

Open to all students in Grades 9-12 residing in Oklahoma’s 2nd District, the competition not only highlights the importance of art in societal and personal development but also encourages students to engage deeply with their communities and the broader themes of hope, progress, and innovation. The chosen theme, “Oklahoma’s Future Begins with Me,” prompts participants to reflect on their role in shaping the future of Oklahoma, offering a deeply personal yet universally relatable canvas to express their dreams, fears, aspirations, and visions for the state.

Why Participate?

Participating in this competition offers more than just an opportunity for artistic expression; it's a chance to be part of a larger conversation about the role of youth in societal advancement. The overall winner will have the honor of their artwork being displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside winners from other districts nationwide. This exposure not only celebrates the winning piece but also symbolizes the vibrant contribution of youth to national culture and heritage.

Moreover, the winner and a guest will be awarded round-trip airfare to Washington D.C., along with two tickets to the winner's reception on Thursday, June 27, 2024. This not only recognizes their achievement but also provides a memorable experience that celebrates their contribution to art and culture.
