Quapaw Nation appoints Diane Hammons as Chief Judge of Quapaw Nation

Quapaw, OK – The Quapaw Nation Business Committee passed Resolution 082121-B on Saturday, appointing Judge Diane Hammons to Chief Judge of Quapaw Nation. The resolution also appointed Judge Jon D, Douthitt as Senior Judge and Andrew Casey as Judge.


Judge Hammons is a Quapaw High School graduate and a Cherokee Nation citizen. She was initially appointed Judge for Quapaw Nation in June 2018, and previously served periodically as a Special Magistrate for Cherokee Nation. Judge Hammons has also served as Attorney General for Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Nation Director of Department of Justice, General Counsel, and an Assistant Professor for Northeastern State University. Diane Hammons brings over 30 years of legal experience to the Quapaw Nation Courts.


“It’s so exciting for me to give back and serve my hometown community.” Said Judge Hammons. The appointment now allows for three court dockets per month, with dockets to be added to Quapaw Nation’s website in the near future.
